What Amount Of Keyword Density Will It Take To Boost My Site

March 23rd, 2010

Can the correct portions of keyword density propel you on search engine placement? Well, not so on its own but it does play a role in SEO. Keyword density can better your odds but only if it is done properly. Over doing it can make you look spammy but not enough will confuse the search engines and it may find a different word to put you on page one on. Can anybody tell you what the rules are? That is what we all would like to know.

Determining what keyword density you need takes a bit of trial and error. You will here people say that 5% of your article should be your keyword density while others say 8% to 16%. I have also heard the explanation of using your keywords once for every one hundred words you use. I could sit here all day and tell you what some people believe but the only ones that for sure know are the editors of the search engines themselves. You can try to ask them if you like but I would not think that they would tell you. How search engines algorithms works is a mystery to most. It must be or everyone would create their pages the exact same way just messing up the results for all.

I have seen webmasters use shady tricks like adding there keywords in at the bottom of the page fool the search engines. I do not recommend this because it only works for a for a little while and then you get penalized. Some have use their ALT tags in the image box for keyword stuffing. This may add to your keyword density but it will hurt you in the long run.

It sounds like search engines read keyword density in two completely different groups. How much the words are together and how much the words can be found apart. To witness this for yourself the next time you type in a keyword phrase look at the site in the “cached” section. There you will find words for the search phrase lit up in multiple colors where ever it can be found in text. It looks like if the keyword phrase is grouped then you get a small boost in result. Especially if it is in your mega title and mega description. But it still will not let you know whether or not your keyword density is too high or too low.

But If I were you, I would not be considered so much about keyword density. More weight is carried by one way backlinks that are linked from your keywords to your site. Just make sure you use your keyword phrase on your website from time to time and build your links. Keyword density is a small thing and by itself will not put you on page one unless the keyword phrase is not that heavily competed for. But what is the point of being high on a phrase if no one is looking for it in the search engines.
